Is there a way to connect ethernet cable to computer without having to restart c

I play ps3 online. To do this i need to take out the ethernet from the back of my computer and plug it into my ps3. When i want to reconnect ethernet cable to my computer, i always have to restart my computer and modem for the internet to work again. This is a lot of hassle because my computer takes long to start up./ i8 M! m/ r! K4 f5 `6 T# I

Yes, it should work just fine to plug the ethernet cable in "hot."9 {4 }5 Z! d2 B8 f. `

Try each of the following (I'm guessing that only one or the other is needed):

1.  Try restarting just the modem.  If it can only handle one device at a time, then restarting it will make sure that it will be ready to let your computer on.

5 s7 t) d4 X2 N: B4 z6 H2.  Try repairing your ethernet connection.  (right-click the icon with two computers, and select repair.)  This process would work if your computer isn't noticing that the connection has come up, or if it's still trying to use an old address -- it basically does the same for the network as rebooting the computer, but without reseting everything else in the computer.6 ^, i2 n4 U) T

After either of those, you should have internet connectivity.  You could get a router to go between your modem and your computer / PS3 -- this would let you use both at once.

It sounds like the issue lies more in the cable modem than your computer. As the other person suggested, picking up a router (they can be found cheaply enough for about $20 or less) would be the best way to go. . {" h, R& q2 X6 Q. e

9 H3 m6 A3 M3 s$ y) U+ S9 lShort of that....  when you plug the cable back into your computer you may just have to power cycle the cable modem. This released the MAC address (not IP address) of your ethernet card from the cable modem (most ISPs will only let you connect one device at a time and it keeps a log in the modem -- this is released during the power cycle and refreshed when it comes back on).

So you may have to turn your modem off, wait a few seconds (up to 30), plug the cable into your computer, then turn the unit back on and allow it to connect. You shouldn't, however, have to turn off/reboot your computer.

every thing be working after that.4 @' i9 y& n  i# J
this cleans out the ip address from your internet card then gets a new on froum your router.
