Open source firewall?

yep, well i'm building a new computer and its gonna have windows7 on it.

anyway, i've been using Comodo Firewall +Defense (with anti-virus turned off) and i really like it because you can write your own policies and it lets you manage your ports....basically its a professional grade firewall, but its one drawback is that its kind of bulky.

so when i start out fresh with my new computer and windows 7 i wanted to tryout some new firewalls

could you give me some good names?
requirements:
-open source
-black list, white list
-manually manage ports
-write your own policy
-internal wall (monitors the operating system and registry) as well as standard exterior firewall
-compatible with windows 7 and/or vista
-low resource consumption (i should hardly notice it running in the background, except when i need it)

and if none of your suggestions make me feel they are better then comodo, i'll pick the best out of the bunch as best answer, while still using comodo as my firewall

hello, Astaroth
yes i do have a router...actually i have a networking jungle both wired and wireless.

but the reason i don't just want to use windows firewall is because with something like comodo i can port individual computers to the internet and programs on them, so less secure computers that are on my network are more separated from each other (like my mom who never up dates her anti-malware programs and i end up having to recover her computer from a non-boot point XD) i understand very well that a good router acts as a firewall to the internet/out side networks, but my internal network needs inside protection. in case one gets infected it is harder to spread the infection to the others.....

If you are connecting through a router with built in firewall, then your computer is pretty secure against in bound attacks as the firewall makes it virtually invisible to the outside world.  You can then use the built in windows firewall to prevent unwanted outbound connections.  Just make sure your router is secure.

It's kind of early to tell what's going to work best in Win 7. Start with Comodo, wait a few months after release and see what gets reported as being best.

You can try online armor because it has lots of different features and is good.
