I keep being sent to an online virus scanner...?

But I have mcafee and norton and they both say my computer isn't infected and my computer doesn't act strange, except for taking me to various urls for an online virus scanner that says my pc is infected. What I noticed was that on each occasion that this happens, there is a different url is the address bar. What is this and how can I fix it?

That is a fake / rogue antivirus warning.
The creator of that wants to make people panic so that people will buy their fake antivirus program to remove the imagery infections.
It may appear because you have visited a malicious website which 'drops' such program which will take you to the fake online scanner (in reality, such fake antivirus doesn't even the ability to scan).

Try downloading & installing free MalwareBytes' Anti-Malware, which can be downloaded from:
http://www.malwarebytes.org/
or http://filehippo.com/download_malwarebyt… if the MalwareBytes' website is blocked by the fake antivirus.

It is designed to remove such fake antivirus programs & warnings.

Run it, update it, run a scan, then remove whatever it detects.

Hope this helps

Hi WinstonGirl,

It sounds like it might be Virus Shield 2009 which is an rogue anti-virus program that has been designed to re-install itself whenever you try to delete or remove it.

The problem is that whenever you are trying to get rid of something you didn't want in the first place, many of the places you go to just try and sell you their solution!

So who can you trust?

I have found that the in cases like this the free Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware solution to be a God send.

If your problem is Virus Shield 2009 then please read on..

I have followed the instructions on bleeping computer (another trustworthy site) to get rid of this for several people on desktops and laptops.

How did you get it?

In several cases I have found that it was bundled with some useful free software - without any warning or option not to install.

Hope this helps - you can give me a thumbs up of it did :-)

This is an advertising virus that is not known by your virus scanner. Probably the virus scanner that you are being sent to is fake. You could try to use a free good antivirus program like Avira or AGV. Disable mcafee and norton before installing the free antivirus, else they could get problems with eachother. Also you could try disabling mcafee, and run a scan with Norton.

its probably spyware or adware that your antivirus programs are not detecting. Try a free PC scan online and see it if works. Do not click or download anything from these popups, they're fake and possibly may have viruses that you could contract if you download it.
